Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew at the Cathedral Plaza
Seating @ 6:30pm / Show starts @ 8pm

Shakespeare Festival/LA
Join the J.13 Young Adult group as we attend this year's Shakespeare Festival together on Thursday, July 17th. It will be conveniently located on the plaza of our Cathedral. If you're interested in joining, please let us know so that we can save you a ticket. Cool thing is...it's FREE!

This summer, Shakespeare Festival/LA presents The Taming of the Shrew as their 2008 Festival Show. Like all their productions, it will be rooted in our local landscape - and what is more quintessential L.A. than car culture? This July, judge for yourself as we look at this tale of commerce and compromise through a uniquely L.A. perspective.
In lieu of charging an admission fee, we encourage all patrons to participate in our Food for Thought program by bringing a non-perishable food item to the performance. All items collected are donated to the Cathedral Outreach Center. Become part of this important community tradition, which has collected more than $1.5 million in food items to date.

Catholic Underground: The Human Experience
Saturday, June 21st - 8pm
(an invitation from the young adults at St. Victor's in West Hollywood)
St. Victor's is putting together an event to invite young adults from across the diocese!
Catholic Underground is a ministry of the Friars of the Renewal in New York that features adoration and a cultural experience, and it is a hit on the east coast. They are starting the first Catholic Underground on the West Coast at St. Victor on June 21st, Sat at 8pm and continue every third Sat of the month. On the opening night, they will be screening the movie, The Human Experience, a powerful documentary about encountering the poor of the world.
You can read more about the event at http://socalcu.blogspot.com/ . This will be a night of adoration, community, confession, food, entertainment and fun. They are flying out a few CFRs to be part of the event and hope that other religious will join as well. They are asking for folks to bring a devotional candle with them (glass enclosed) so everyone can each contribute to lighting the church.
The rest of the evening is free!
We hope that you will help get this word out to all the folks you know and to your group as well as the parishes in your area so that we can gather as many young adults together in prayer and fellowship. If you have any questions, please contact Marianne at this email (st.victor.parish@gmail.com) or 562-857-2249. Many thanks for your help!

This will be a great opportunity to be introduced to the detailed art, history, and architecture of the Cathedral & the grounds. Msgr. Kevin was instrumental in overseeing the development of the Cathedral, so this will definitely be a great experience...and maybe he'll share with us some cool stories & secret passages. =) I hope you can make it. Holy Family Day Hike on June 14th

WHO: Holy Family Young Adults (and anyone who is interested)
WHAT: Day Hike to the "Bridge to Nowhere" (10 miles round trip)
WHERE: San Gabriel River East Fork Trail in Azusa (Meet at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena to carpool)
WHEN: Saturday, June 14th 2008
HOW: Meet at Trailhead to hike at 10:15am or carpool from Holy Family Church at 9am.

Carpool:
Meet at Holy Family Church parking lot to depart at 9 am SHARP. Please do not be late!

From Pasadena:
-Drive East along 210.
-Exit onto Azusa Avenue/HWY 39 and go North.
-Stop at main entrance Ranger Station and purchase Day Use Pass ($5) if needed and register group for wilderness pass (free).
-Continue along 39 North passing San Gabriel Reservoir on your right and turn Right at East Fork Road (a bridge).
-When you get to a hairpin turn, continue straight and do not turn onto Glendora Mountain Road (this will be a service road).
-Arrive at parking lot and trailhead.

HIKE:
9.8 miles roundtrip. Expect to get your feet (and maybe more) wet on this hike as we will be required to make at least 6 river crossings. Dwane has done this hike many times before and has been able to keep his feet dry, but given current reviews online, we might have to do some wading. All the boulder hopping and stream crossings lead to a paradise at the Bridge to Nowhere, and to an eerie abandoned mountain cave. The group should arrive at the bridge around 1:15, and we will rest there and eat our packed lunch. Hikers may stay as long as they wish then hike back (about 2.5 hours). We plan on leaving bridge at 3:00 pm to return to parking lot by 5:30 pm. We will probably go out to dinner afterward (location to be determined).

NOTES:
-Hiking Boots a must as you may have to walk/hop on slippery rocks and your feet will probably get wet (perhaps more). No sneakers as they will get soaked and may cause blisters.
-There is no drinking water, restroom facilities or food along this hike, just the raw out doors and nature.
-Pack sufficient water, snacks and your lunch, sunscreen if you burn easily, and some toilet paper and bag for it.
-We may carry a water purification system among the group, and will have a basic first aid kit among us.
-Wear quick drying clothes like synthetic track pants or waterproof ski pant shells (not something that will get heavy when wet)
-Carry a change of clothes if you wish (definitely socks), towel (if swimming) and sweatshirt (if you think you will be cold in the evening hours).

More free stuff to do this weekend! April 25-27, 2008

In addition to the below concert in Pasadena, which should be fabulous, you should...

Check this out:

At various locations throughout LA (ie: MacArthur Park; not just LACMA and the Getty) you can watch gigantic walls of ice melt. Allan Kaprow—Art As Life.

http://www.experiencela.com/Calendar/eventmore.asp?key=17329
Celebrate C.O. Bigelow's 180th anniversary.. Check out the site- this looks like fun, and... it's FREE (like most of this stuff). Not quite artsy, but still fun.

LA Contemporary Dance Company presents three shows this weekend with the "fantastical, mythological and other-worldy in mind." Sounds like fun..

http://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/california_video/
Heard this California video exhibition is cool.. though I didn't get a chance to see it when I was there a few weeks ago.

http://www.hprala.org/
Fiesta Broadway - downtown. What is this about? Looks pretty cra-zay and they're closing off a bunch of streets downtown for it. Those Latinos can party hardy.

LA Times Festival of Books! If you're a book lover, this is for you. Pay only for parking. Some of the panels require reservations.

Now don't tell me you don't have plans this weekend! You should go. I should go. We should all go :)

Guest Speaker - Rosalind Moss

Hi everyone! It's Roberta here, and just wanted to pass on the info... I'll be going to check out a speaker tonight, the info I got via email is below. In case your interested!

Hi All -

We will not haveTheology of the Body this week as Prayer & Pasta welcomes an AMAZING speaker Rosalind Moss to their roster. If you have never been to Prayer & Pasta, it is a wonderful night of great food, great people, and a great talk with much food for thought. Runs from 7pm - 10pm this Wednesday February 20th at Family Theaterlocated at7201 West Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Details on Rosalind Mossbelow. See you Wednesday!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rosalind Moss was born and raised in a Jewish home, and in her adult years embraced Jesus as the Messiah of the Jewish people. Her initial conversion took her from a 15-year business career as a successful executive with corporations in New York and California to full-time Evangelical ministry, earning a master's degree in Ministry from Talbot Theological Seminary. A series of events in the Summer of 1990 set her on a compelling course to find out if the Catholic Church is in fact the Church Christ established 2,000 years ago. After 18 years of Evangelical Protestantism, she entered the Catholic Church at Easter 1995.
Rosalind now travels the world speaking and teaching through conferences, parish missions, women's and family retreats, and all forms of media. She is the editor of Home at Last, 11 Who found their Way to the Catholic Church, which includes her own journey to the Church. In addition to her semi-monthly radio program, "From the Heart" on Catholic Answers Live, Rosalind co-hosts EWTN's "Household of Faith" and "Now That We're Catholic!" and is the host of the brand new series, Reasons for Our Hope: A Bible Study on the Gospel of Luke, airing presently on EWTN and available on DVD for individual, group and parish use together with the book by the same title available from CatholicAnswers.
